The Oak Barrel Water Butt provides a great opportunity to add a real feature to the garden and start saving valuable water immediately; and you can collect plenty of it thanks to the 227 Litre capacity of this genuine, ex-distillery oak barrel.
Oak Barrel Water Butts are supplied complete with either a traditional wooden brewer's tap or brass frog tap.
Measurements of the Oak Barrel Water Butt vary due to their history (different distilleries produced their own sizes) but the guide size is 90cm/35.5" high x 55cm/22" diameter x 230cm/91" at widest point around the centre.
We pre drill a round hole in the lid of the barrel to accept a standard downpipe and also drill a hole for the tap. Although the tap hole is drilled at a standard height to allow easy filling of a watering can, in some cases this may have to be adjusted due to the positioning of the metal banding around the barrel.
Due to the width of the barrels please be sure to check access before purchasing.

A bit of fiddling to get it set up, as you would imagine. Obviously been dried out for a while. Once wet took a few days for it to stop leaking. Looks great in the garden.
Lovely barrel, just what we wanted. Faint whisky smell. BUT unless u r going to watch it every 5 minutes to ensure it doesn't overflow, u can't use it. We had to make modifications to hole at top and make one in the side in order to fit with a rain diverter (plus purchasing fittings). The description implies it is all ready to go, but it's not so don't get caught out

Water Butts on Test - Julia Heaton 17/20
Took a few days for the wood to swell up to prevent it from leaking but after this it was fine. Taps didn't self tap into the barrel so be prepared to silicone them in. Lack of downpipe adds to the expense but has a timeless appeal and a big capacity.
