PLEASE NOTE: Vine Weevil Killer will be despatched when soil temperature is suitable for application
Nematode Pest Control Delivery - Being a live product, nematodes are ordered every week on a Monday to be delivered on Friday of the same week.
Nemasys Vine Weevil Killer is just the thing for gardeners who have had their pot and border plants mysteriously killed by the underground, root-feeding menace of vine weevil larvae. These greedy grubs live in the soil, feed on plant roots - even burrowing into corms, tubers and rhizomes - and not surprisingly cause plants to wilt, keel over and even die.
Many ornamental plants and fruit bushes are affected by the larvae but the nematodes (Steinernema kraussei) which form the Nemasys Vine Weevil Killer soon hunt out and kill them when applied in spring and autumn. Nemasys Vine Weevil Killer relies on the soil temperature being in excess of 5ºC so can be used at any time of year indoors, and is supplied in two pack sizes; Small (covers 12 sqm or 210 x 7.5L pots) and Large (100 sqm).
Simply dissolve the entire pack into bucket to make a stock solution and then add 0.5L to a 5 Litre watering can fitted with a very coarse rose and fill with water. This can then be watered on the garden or pots once soil temperatures hit 5°C.
This live product is despatched to UK Mainland addresses only and needs to be stored in the fridge until application.

Product Reviews
We had been suffering an increase in plant damage for several years due to Vine Weevils, saw this product advertised and decided to give it a try, opting for the two applications a year choice. Since using it over the last few years the incidents of plant loss have dramatically reduced, and this year we have only had three, two in the flower borders and one in a pot.
Used this product for the first time last year after finding an investation of vine weevil in my garden pots. I found a few this spring but nothing like the amount the year before. I had a couple of queries before I bought the first lot and these were answered quickly and decisively. Would definitely recommend both the product and the company.
Vine Weevils
Vine weevils are beetles. They have a long thin snout and are approximately 8-14 mm (¼ to ½ inch) in length. They are dull black with patches of tiny yellow bristles. They cannot fly but can walk 3 miles in a year.
All adults are female and lay hundreds of white eggs, approximately 0.8 mm in diameter and round. They rapidly turn brown as they mature.
The eggs are often confused with slow release fertiliser pellets, such as, Osmocote, which are found in most common compost mixes. The Osmocote pellets are 2 mm in diameter, release liquid fertiliser when squashed and range in colour from yellow to dark brown.
The vine weevil larvae feed and grow throughout late summer and autumn. During winter their growth slows as temperatures decrease and feeding activity also decreases. As the temperature rises in spring, the larvae's activity starts to increase again causing more and more root damage
The vine weevil grub (larvae) is far more of a danger to plants than the adults. The young larvae feed on plant root systems, initially on small fine outer roots, but progressively attacking the more important main roots as they grow bigger.
Primulas, fuchsias, begonias, most evergreen plants and all plants in pots are particularly at risk. They also attack strawberry and raspberry plants.

Nemasys Vine Weevil Killer is the simple solution to control vine weevil.
This already successful product has now been substantially improved. Over many years we have been working with HRI, the leading UK based horticulture research group, to bring forward this exciting development.
Nemasys Vine Weevil Killer contains a newly found nematode, Steinernema kraussei. This new nematode has some very impressive benefits including;
- Ability to work at cold temperatures. This new nematode will work at temperatures down to 5ºC (40ºF) (Heterorhabditis required a minimum of 12ºC (54ºF)), so that you can protect your plants earlier in the year.
- Most gardeners notice that they have a problem with vine weevils in February/March (this is when they notice their plants are sick), previously they had to wait until April/May to apply Nemasys Vine Weevil Killer, now they can use the product straight away from March onwards.
- Prevention is better than cure, so it is better to apply the product in autumn, before the problem develops. Again the new Nemasys Vine Weevil Killer nematode will provide much improved performance here. In particular, gardeners can apply it well into November, providing a much longer application window.
To keep a minor problem at bay, one autumn treatment (September - November) should be adequate. For a serious infestation, treat in the spring and again in the autumn

What The Press Say
Which?10th August 2009
On Test: Vine Weevil Treatment
"70% of our triallists found no trace of vine weevil grubs in the soil or compost they'd treated the previous September. Of the 14 triallists who did find grubs, all but one said at least some of the plants they'd treated were grub-free which persuaded most to conclude it had worked, taking cost into account 40 of the 46 triallists would buy it."
