"Opening up a fresh pod of peas and finding a pea moth caterpillar tunnelling into the peas inside isn't something you'll likely to forget or want to repeat, and any methods the gardener can use to stop these hard-to-control pests in theitr tracks are most welcome.
"Pea moths are usually active from late May through to the end of July and prefer warm conditions. They lay eggs on the pea foliage and after these hatch, the young caterpillars eat their way into young pods and then the peas. They're also safe from predators and sprays in the pod!
"That's why prevention is better than cure and the Pea Moth Trap certainly does that! Adult male moths are lured in by a pheromone and drowned; this severely hampers their ability to fertilise females and the result is far fewer eggs and caterpillars.
"If you're catching plenty of adult moths, its also an indication that numbers are high and you may need to net your crop or even sow earlier or later to make sure pod development doesn't coincide with moth's busy period!
