Fruit Cage Steel for Raised Beds
Harrod Trade Department were approached to design, supply and install a bespoke walk in steel fruit cage to fit a raised vegetable and fruit bed that had already been constructed as part of a recent garden re design. The raised bed planters were constructed from sleepers and although looked true and square when we started to measure up we found a number of small discrepancies meaning the cage would have to be bespoke in every way to accommodate this.
The standard roof height of 2m above ground was achieved by manufacturing the uprights shorter to enable them to sit on top on the sleepers on square footplates bolted to the sleepers.
A larger than standard door kit was used to fit the gap that already existed. We were unable to insert the uprights for this cage into the ground so they were affixed to the side of the sleepers.
Standard netting was cut to fit the outline footprint of the beds and was then held down around the edge using stainless steel hooks – which enables the client to unhook it and roll it up for ease of use from each side of the raised beds.
"Many thanks for your help and advice on the cage. The installation guys were great and the finished cage looks very tidy and does the job."
