The Green Start Coir Pot Set is the epitome of recycling and if you're at all interested in the welfare of the planet (along with the success of your seedlings and young plants) then these coir pots are the place to start.
Manufactured to provide ethically based employment to people in Sri-Lanka, the coir is a waste product from coconut processing and will only be with you for a short while before the 18 green start root runner tapered pots and 6 round pots (4cm diameter) break down and return to the soil!
And it's not only pots you get in your Green Start Coir Pot Set; the kit also contains coir discs so you won't need compost and carrying/seed sowing trays, made out of - you've guessed it - coir! All the pots will slowly biodegrade in the soil after a few weeks (adding invaluable organic matter to the soil from which they came from) and as a result, are ideal for starting off seedlings which don't like having their roots disturbed and for avoiding transplant shock.
Roots of plants are 'air pruned' as they push their way through the coir pots, leading to a strong and well-developed root system and with the tapered pots proving tailor-made for tap rooted seedlings (beans and peas for example), the Green Start Coir Pots represent recycling in its purest form and will make a big impression in the short time they are with you!

Our Daily Express-published horticulturist and Master Composter Martin Fiddes says; "As a Master Composter, I'm delighted to see the upsurge in interest in coir pots. Not only are they quick, clean and easy to start off seedlings and young plants in but they add valuable organic matter to the soil and compost heap as they degrade.
"But most gardeneres will be attracted to the benefits coir pots bring to their plants. No more storing pots - which can harbour pests and soil borne diseases along with taking up valuable storage space in the potting shed or greenhouse - and potting on; instead, just pop the plants out into the garden, pots and all, when you're ready.
"You'll also find the coir pots greatly reduce transplant shock - this is the growth check plants can suffer when planted into the soil - and root disturbance, as some fussy plants such as cucurbits and lettuce just don't like having their roots messeed with.
"Plants raised in coir pots generally have stronger and more extensive roots than plastic pot raised counterparts and this is down to 'air pruning'. This happens when roots push through the coir and expose themselves to air; this stops them growing and instead they throw out side roots, developing a larger root system which enables them to take on more food and water.
"Pots which return to the soil after use and benefit the plants? It doesn't get much better in the pot world than that!"
