How much soil will I need?
Calculating the quantity of soil you will require to fill your beds is relatively simple; you just need to multiply the length of your bed by the width and the depth in metres, multiply by 1000 and the figure you arrive at is the amount of compost you'll need in litres. All the Rolawn soil we supply is delivered in 730 litre tote bags so you can tell immediately how many bags you'll need to order. There is a calculator on the Rolawn Soil page or the example below should help you with this;
2.4m long x 1.2m wide x 20cm deep = (2.4 x 1.2 x 0.2) x 1000 = 576 litres - 1 x 730 litre tote bag required
For the best growing results, we'd advise you to fill your beds with 75% topsoil and use a bulky organic matter - such as farmyard manure or home-made compost - to make up the other 25%. For more details on filling your raised bed, please contact our Customer Services Team.
Product Reviews
We already had 9 of these beautiful green metal raised beds and have just added another one. They are so easy to build, and we love the ease of gardening in them. It gives us thrill to see how stylish they look every time we see them. After about 10 years the original ones still look like new. A brilliant product.
This is the second time we have ordered these raised metal beds from Harrod, as we were delighted with the first, smaller bed. We are replacing four long wooden frames that have rotted badly by 8 double layer metal ones. They look fantastic, keep the soil warm inside and are ridiculously easy to put together and install, once we learnt three tricks; 1) install on a flat surface first, then move into position. DON'T try and do it with earth piling up anywhere near it! 2) NEVER tighten ANY nuts and bolts fully until all are in place, otherwise you won't be able to match up the last holes! and 3) It is easier to put them together upside down.

Product Reviews - Sowing Equipment
This is a cross between a trowel and a dibber and can be used for levering plants out of pots as well as sowing seeds, or potting on seedlings and young plants. It has a stainless steel head and FSC hardwood handle. KG Verdict: A versatile tool, we found this widger particularly useful for easing young plants out of pots, and even for lifting carrots later in the season. A well made and useful accessory to have at hand.
