Our new Vintage Vegetable Cages, exclusively designed and manufactured by us in the UK, have an innovative framework which is robust yet flexible to withstand strong winds and snow. The framework offers great protection for your plants with the fitted anti butterfly netting cover making it ideal for protecting brassicas.
The strong 10mm gauge steel rods are left untreated and quickly develop an even rust coating to add a traditional appearance to the vegetable garden. The rods for the framework are securely fixed in place with the strong steel nodes. The uprights fit through the steel disk node and are secured in place with a fixing screw and then topped by a sphere finial which pushes onto the steel rod. The steel rods for the framework have a hooked end which fits securely into the steel disc node.
The cage kit includes the solid steel rod framework, harrod disk nodes, 50mm diameter sphere finials, fitted 7mm soft knitted butterfly net and steel gound pegs. The fitted netting goes over the vegetable cage and is then fixed in place with the ball finial and secured with the supplied ground pegs.
Available in a range of sizes, all kits stand 1.5m High above ground with 30cm of the uprights inserted into the ground for stability.

I bought this to go over my blueberry raised bed in my kitchen garden. First problem was getting the uprights in the ground, my ground is a little stony and i had to resort to using an auger to get the poles in the ground, i maybe managed to get them 25cm in and i easily spent 15 mins per spoke hammering them in. Getting the nodes on the uprights was simple as was slotting in the horizontal rods, however the whole structure is so loose and wobbly the top pieces just rock around in the nodes they aren't securely fitted together which is what I expected. Because I couldn't get the uprights in 30 centimeters the netting was too short for the frame so I had to lower the the nodes down the upright so the finals are stuck on the top some way from the node which looks rubbish. I suppose i imagined a secure frame that pushed into the ground, this is not that, this has 4 upright spokes pushed into the ground with loose horizontal rods sitting on a node. The whole thing is rickety and wobbly and nothing feels secure. Not remotely impressed with this for the price. Maybe it will work better on soft ground but anything beyond that will be tricky to get up and once its up its laughable at how insecure it feels. Its so easy for one of the horizontal rods to pop out of the node. This was an expensive mistake the search for an attractive solid structure for my kitchen garden beds continues.

Having purchased 2 vintage cages over 2 years ago this additional cage provides the additional protection needed for my range of vegetables - protects brassica plants through winter and summer - along the North Yorkshire coast. Looks great and stands the test of time . Highly recommended
