Red Sentinel is a 'Siberian' type crab apple which makes it one of the latest ripening of all Crab apples, with the fruit only reaching bright red in November and remaining on the tree well into January making for an attractive winter display.
The clusters of medium sized round apples bring the branches on the tree down giving it an attractive weeping appearance and also restricts its size.
Introduced in 1959, the Red Sentinel Crab Apple Trees are supplied as moderate vigour form on MM106 rootstock. Often grown as an ornamental tree, and ideal for a garden where they can be a feature on their own or grown alongside other fruiting trees, acting as good pollinators for other apple trees.
Crab apple trees are available barerooted as one year 'maiden' trees. They vary in size according to the variety but the average height will be 1.2-1.5m (4-5' tall) reaching up to 5.5m (18ft) and ideal for training into bush trees.
Organic Red Sentinel Crab Apple Trees are despatched in bare-root form between November and March.

Planting - do not attempt to plant your fruit trees when the ground is frozen or waterlogged. The trees can be stored in their packaging in an outbuilding or garage for 2-3 days, or can be heeled into the soil where the ground is not as frozen. Alternatively, plant up in large pots or containers and ensure the roots have good contact with the soil.
