Salvia uliginosa produces clear sky blue flowers and can grow to a height of 2m (6ft) making a stunning impact in the herbaceous border.
This is a clump-forming, rhizomatous perennial with lance-shaped, deeply-toothed, mid-green leaves to 7cm (3in) long. These are well-spaced and become progressively smaller up the slender stems. Flowers are on short, terminal racemes and are 2cm (¾in) long.
Salvia uliginosa is hardy throughout most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F).
