Have used slug repellent matting for several years - quite effective as long as no gaps for the slugs to get through to the plant. Best is complete doughnuts, but wastes quite a lot of matting. And need to be weighed down too. Overall, better than most other repellants.
Not a hundred per cent effective but better than any other slug treatment I have used before wouldn't use anything else now. I treated myself to Miracle Grow Feeder makes it so easy to apply & you have hose ready to apply water after. Great product my Hosta has a chance now.
As a keen vegetable gardener with Buddhist leanings, I have tried all sorts of slug repellents. This is the only one which really does work. It's slightly fiddly at first but well worth it. It does need weighing down around the edges, as it's lightweight and will blow around in windy weather, which could damage the plants. Remember to keep it free of leaves and other garden debris.

This fabric, called Tex-R, has been impregnated on one side with copper, which the makers say slugs and snails hate and either won't attempt to cross or just sit on it. You can snip it to size to form a barrier under pots and around individual plants, or cut slits to plant in a row. I liked the fact that this barrier is reusable and is not affected by weather. As well as deterring slugs, it retains moisture, has insulating properties and keeps weeds at bay - so it has a lot going for it and is great value. Also available in rolls up to 16ft x 2ft 9in (5m x 90cm) or as pot mats. Remember if it's plants in pots you want to protect, you have to ensure your pots are completely slug-free first, removing any eggs from beneath the surface of the compost. Star Score: 9/10 - 4* for features and 5* for value.
