Whether you are looking to grow your own fruit and vegetables or make a colourful floral display then a trough style planter or table can be a great option.
All the planters are made using high quality Scandinavian timber from sustainably managed forests. The wood is high pressure treated with a safe preserve, approved by Garden Organic, to resist fungal decay and wood boring insects.
Why choose a Manger Trough Style Planter?
Trough or manger style planters are a great alternative to traditional planters, offering a versatile way of growing and they look fantastic too!
The varying depths created by the V-shape of the planter makes it perfect to grow a range of vegetables, herbs and salads.
The trough planters, being off the ground are easy to tend and are much easier on the back requiring less bending. Because they are contained you have much more control over the soil conditions and they do not suffer from soil compaction that you can get on open beds from walking around the plot. Another benefit is that they are less susceptible to pests and diseases.
How to plant up a Manger Planter?
As this style of planter has different soil depths due to the V-shape then it gives lots of options for planting.
When filling the planter use a good quality compost and make sure you leave a gap of around 5-10cm to allow for planting.
Central Area - Along the middle where the soil is deepest this is ideal for root vegetables as they have the soil depth they need.
Edges – As the soil is shallower, this is ideal for crops like salad and herbs, that don’t require much soil depth.
